Jordan Year
The greatest basketball player to ever step sneaker on the court, the hero of Space Jam, the focus of North Carolina legend, the man that made the Chicago Bulls what they are--Michael Jordan--wore the number 23. And so, it's fitting that all the rest of us who hail him as the GOAT (greatest of all time) call 23, our "Jordan Year."For the past few months I've been feeling uncharacteristically old, in a "oh-no-I'm-almost-mid-20s-that-must-mean-I'm-pushing-30" kind of way. Which is completely ridiculous I know, but my mind is always 100 steps ahead of me so yeah, I might as well be turning 29. LOL. Irrational panic aside, tomorrow I turn 23 and embark on another daring year of my 20s.It feels like a big year of personal, emotional and spiritual growth. It feels like a year where my creativity will abound and my career will continue to form. It feels like a year of exciting adventures and trying new things. It feels like a year where I'll have the chance to connect with, share with and learn from new people. It feels like...my year. And something tells me it will be this way until the next birthday, long after the "new year, new me" propaganda has worn away.Tomorrow will be the first birthday I've spent home in a few years, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with my mom and birthday twin. Festivities planned? A bit of lounging after work and some poetry. All while wearing my Air Jordan 11s of course, because there's no other way to honor Father Basketball (as the 2013 song, 23 , does so well) than to rep the Jumpman on your feet. I'm so thankful to be blessed with another year of life.If there's anything I've learned from Michael Jordan it's this: be the best, work the hardest, never give up, and do the impossible. Those are my goals this year. Think it sounds crazy? Think again. Remember, even humans can fly. ;)What are your thoughts on birthdays, the number 23 or Jordan himself?
